Unofficial site. Not affiliated with FMCSA or USDOT. Data from the public FMCSA Company Census File; always verify on the official FMCSA SAFER.
Look up a U.S. trucking company by USDOT number, MC number, or company name. Free, no account. This is an unofficial site built from the public FMCSA Company Census File — not FMCSA and not a substitute for SAFER.
DOT / USDOT prefix (example: 204050 or DOT 204050).MC (or MX) prefix so we do not confuse it with a DOT that uses the same digits (example: MC158635).Detailed profile pages are published for 2,842 active companies with complete, recent MCS-150 filings. The on-site search also covers 13,000 active carriers; names without a profile page still show in results with a SAFER link.
A USDOT number is the federal identifier FMCSA assigns for safety oversight. Most commercial carriers that operate in interstate commerce need one.
An MC number (Motor Carrier docket) is operating authority for for-hire interstate carriers (and related broker/forwarder dockets). A company can have a DOT without an MC; for-hire interstate hauling usually needs both. This site stores MC as the census docket prefix plus number (for example MC158635).
Profile pages show census fields we publish: legal name, DBA, city and state, entity type, operation type, classification, power units, trucks, drivers, CDL drivers, hazmat flag, reported mileage, safety rating (if any), MCS-150 date, and cargo types.
We do not publish street addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, or company officer names. Sole proprietors / individuals do not get indexed profile pages. We also do not show live insurance filings: the legacy L&I history is outdated for new Motus filings after 2026-05-14 — use official FMCSA tools for insurance and authority status.
No. TheDOTNumberLookup is independent and unofficial. The official free Company Snapshot is FMCSA SAFER. Always verify there before you tender freight or make a compliance decision.
Public FMCSA Company Census File on data.transportation.gov (dataset az4n-8mr2). Pages are rebuilt from that file; the footer shows the build date. Census data can lag behind what SAFER shows on a given day.
We only index a few thousand active companies with complete, recent filings (and we skip individual owner-operators). Many more carriers still appear in search results with their USDOT and a SAFER link. If you need a carrier that is not listed, use SAFER directly.
Yes. If you type bare digits, we prefer exact DOT matches first. If you mean an MC docket, put MC in front so the search stays on MC results.
Not as live coverage. Legacy Licensing & Insurance records before 2026-05-14 are historical only; newer Motus filings are not in that old system. Check current insurance on official FMCSA systems.
Use the removal / correction request. To fix the government record itself, file an MCS-150 update with FMCSA.
Insurance/authority filing history from the legacy FMCSA L&I system is historical only (records before 2026-05-14). Newer filings made in FMCSA Motus are not included. Verify current insurance on official FMCSA systems.
